writer, director and producer
Carolina Gimenez is an Argentinian-born writer, director and producer who has called New York home for more than twenty years. A graduate of film school in Argentina, she has spent more than 15 years working across independent narrative film, documentary and television while developing her own work as a filmmaker.
Her life and work are grounded in a deep love of cinema, art and photography. A painter, street photographer and ceramic artist, Carolina is drawn to texture, imperfection and the small details that reveal something larger about the people we are. Filmmaking is the language through which she explores emotion, memory and human connection, with a particular interest in stories that move between the personal and the systemic and bridge cultures and experiences.
She made her U.S. directorial debut with the short film Dolls in 2017. Shortly after she produced the independent feature Cubby, selected for the IFP (now Gotham) Narrative Lab which screened at festivals including Frameline, Outfest, NewFest and Inside Out Toronto. In 2023, she produced the short film To All the Girls I Could've Loved Before, which premiered at the Mallorca International Film Festival.
Her production credits span across independent narrative film, documentary and television, collaborating on projects for both independent filmmakers and major broadcasters.
Carolina is currently completing The Artist of the Family, a personal documentary exploring art, family and legacy, while developing her narrative projects In the Mood for a Date and Alone. In the Mood for a Date was a semifinalist at Outstanding Screenplays in 2023 and a quarterfinalist at Filmmatic in 2022 and WeScreenplay in 2023.
Her passion for cinema also extends into curation. She is part of the short film programming team at the Lighthouse International Film Festival, where she helps champion bold and emerging voices.
